Bob Perry 40' "Amati"

Amati is a Robert Perry custom design for a Seattle customer. The design evolved from their last boat, an Ultimate 20 and will be used on Puget Sound as a fast day sailor with overnight accommodations.

The deck layout provides a large cockpit with two distinct areas: the aft being the sailors' pit with all the strings a dinghy sailor could ask for; the forward section of the cockpit is a comfortable space where one can lounge in comfort, catch the sun or take a nap for that matter. The rig is a fractional sloop, with a small (easy tacking) roller-furling jib. The large main is fully battened and has a rigid vang for easy handling. Larger headsails, a drifter, or an asymmetric spinnaker can be set in light winds. There is no standing backstay; the triple spreader rig has swept back spreaders. Running backstays can be used for additional mast support in windy conditions.

Upon going below, we find a compact galley with removable ice chests that roll out for access and can be removed to home for cleaning and packing for the next adventure. The main salon has two settees and a fold down table with storage of those items often sipped at the end of a great day's sail. Forward, near the mast, we find a large head and dressing area with varnished doors to fulfill the privacy requirement. That brings our tour to the forward cabin complete with lockers and a large double berth. All in all, this provides a rather pleasant interior for a great performing pocket cruiser.

We a Schooner Creek have again utilized wood as one of the major construction components, just like the fantastic cellos produced by the famous Italian Amati (this yachts namesake). Hull and deck are of wood with the addition of Klegecell foam core, unidirectional glass, and West System epoxy.

The exterior and interior finishes are Awlgrip to create a yacht that is free from maintenance and destined for decades of carefree sailing.

The ultra modern design of the underwater foils coupled with a generous sail plan and time proven construction have created a yacht that will certainly turn heads and keep her owners happy for years to come.
