The customer relies on both a designer and a builder to interpret his dreams and achieve his goals. In the case of “Hana Mari”, the goal was a boat capable of long passages in safety with the performance to make the typical day sail a fun and exciting event.
The design was by Tom Wylie of San Francisco and the builder was Schooner Creek Boat Works. These two, designer and builder have worked well together over the years, creating not only performance cruisers such as “Hana Mari”, but offshore racers as well.
The building technique utilized was the “COVE” system developed by Schooner Creek, a system in which wood veneer and epoxy, and a foam core are combined to give a hull with superior strength to weight ratios. Boats of this construction method have repeatedly crossed and re-crossed oceans year after year.
“Hana Mari” sleeps up to eight in an interior designed to go to sea. She has a simple rig for ease of handling and is powered by a Yanmar diesel for those calm days.
Being a custom boat
her list of features is endless including electronics, heat system, refrigeration,
pressure water, an on deck shower, as well as a conventional shower in
the head. |
