Do-It-Yourself Regulations

The “Do-it-yourself” yard is for customers working on their own vessels. Customers are welcome to utilize the assistance of family or crew. You are responsible for your friends and family assisting you. You are responsible for their adherence to these regulations. You are responsible for any damage caused, further you are responsible for any injury suffered by them.

  • You are responsible for maintaining a safe, neat, and clean work area.
  • Yard Working Hours are 8 AM to 9 PM. Due to City of Portland noise regulations,
  • You are responsible for any damage to or dirt deposited on adjacent boats. Please contain your work. Damage to and/or required cleaning of adjacent boats will be repaired by Schooner Creek and billed to your account.
  • Ground tarps are required under all vessels at all times and will be supplied by Schooner Creek; the customer will be charged for these tarps.
  • Customers will be responsible for cleaning any dirt, dust, or debris for the tarp and surfaces around work areas on a daily basis or more frequently as required.
  • Preparation of any copper laden paint (bottom paint) will be completed by Schooner Creek at the current labor rate. Estimates provided upon inspection.
  • Schooner Creek does not have the capability to un-step masts on boats already hauled. Please arrange for this service before haul-out.
  • The “Do-it-yourself” yard is for customers working on their own vessels. Customers are welcome to utilize the assistance of family or crew.   • Employees of customers will be treated as outside contractors.
  • Schooner Creek charges $10.00 per hour for outside contractors. Proof of liability insurance is required. Outside contractors must check into the office for a badge and check out at the end of the day. You will be charged 8 hours for any day the badge is not turned in and picked up.
  • Please supply your own ladders. Ladders left in work area must be locked.
  • Do not, under any circumstances, move boat stands.
  • No vehicles are allowed in yard. The travel lift operator cannot see them when transporting boats. Attended loading or unloading is permitted with prior approval from the office. Cars without approval are subject to towing. Schooner Creek is not responsible for over-spray or any other damage on vehicles in the yard. 
  • Proof of vessel liability insurance is required before work commences.
  • The office staff is available for consultation; please do not disturb the employees.
  • No Radios, Boom boxes, DVD players, etc. are allowed.
  • No drugs or alcohol in yard.
  • No pets of any kind are allowed in boat yard.
  • No customer spray painting is allowed.
  • Please dispose of any toxic materials according to EPA regulation. The Schooner Creek dumpster is not an approved disposal facility. It is to be used for normal garbage only; the boat owner should haul large amounts of waste off the premises.
  • No sand blasting is permitted.
  • Please supply your own tools. Please do not ask to borrow employees’ tools.
  • Living aboard vessels is not permitted.
  • Schooner Creek Boat Works reserves the right to launch any vessels with standing rigs in case of forecast high winds. This will be charged to your account.
  • Best Management Practices for Shipyards to be adhered to. A copy is available in the office.
