Job description
OVERVIEW
This position is extremely important to Schooner Creek Boat Works as it is the primary interface with Schooner Creek’s customer base for refit and repair. The relationships that the Service Writer builds with customers are very critical. You can never over-communicate with customers. As a Service Writer, you will work in a fast-paced environment, making estimates and managing projects.
Over the course of a project, you will need to communicate with staff and clients, make decisions and monitor the progress of the project to keep it on schedule. Important responsibilities include:

Creating long- and short-term plans

Delegating tasks on the project to employees best positioned to complete them

Making effective decisions when presented with multiple options for how to progress with the project
-
Serving as a point of contact for teams when multiple units are assigned to the same project to ensure team actions remain in synergy

Performing quality control on the project
-
Adjusting schedules and targets on the project as needed for the project change
This individual needs to be a team player. Schooner Creek Boat Works is one company but, within the one company, it performs many varied functions.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Meet and greet customers in person, via phone, via email
-
Ensure ongoing communication with customers during the progress of their work
-
Communicate with the yard manager on all aspects of booked work, anticipated work, and technical aspects

Seek input from other staff on areas requiring estimates and/or work that you are shy of technical knowledge on
-
Ask questions prior to making assumptions
-
Increase your personal knowledge of the products, procedures, and people that contribute to this position’s success
-
Be involved in assessing and ensuring the quality of the work that is being turned out
-
Report to management on the performance of the crew and staffing requirements
-
Participate in the review process of the Refit and Repair staff
-
Assist in marketing and increasing the business volume of the Refit and Repair component of Schooner Creek
-
Help maintain and improve the use of our database
-
Invoice customers in a timely manner
-
Create clear specifications for work sold so the staff can meet the expectations
-
Set correct expectation levels with both the customer and the staff
-
Report on work in process weekly
