Shipwright Assistant - New Construction

Schooner Creek Boat Works is looking for a Shipwright Assistant

to join our New Construction team!

 

Summary:

Interprets plans and uses a variety of tools to construct boats.

 

What You'll Do:

  • Construct tooling (molds)

  • Cut, fit and install parts/materials

  • Apply fiberglass, resin, and coatings

  • Construct and install hardware

  • Maintain and clean work area

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Experience:

Two years of boat building and/or construction experience.

 

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Valid Drivers' License

 

Ability to Use the Following Equipment:

  • Table Saw

  • Jig Saw

  • Grinder

  • Circular Saw

  • Sanders

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

 

Math Ability:

Ability to use basic math to calculate figures such as length and area.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.

The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and regularly up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), work in high, precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, extreme cold (non-weather), and extreme heat (non-weather).  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Full-time, Monday through Friday 7:30 am - 4:00 pm

​

Compensation will be commensurate with experience.

​

All customers are required to wear masks and we are limiting how many enter the offices and yard areas.  Surfaces are regularly sanitized.  Masks and sanitizer are made available to all employees.
