Schooner Creek Boat Works is looking for a Lead Marine Mechanic to join our team!

 

Summary:

You will be responsible for diagnosing issues on Inboard and Outboard Diesel and Gas Engines, Plumbing, Steering Systems, and Minor Electrical. The Lead Mechanic should be able to make plans and delegate work to technicians. The Lead Mechanic is responsible for managing and training others as needed.

We are looking to hire a skilled Marine Mechanic to inspect, service, and repair marine engines for our clients. You may also be required to address problems with boat steering and hydraulic systems. To ensure success as a Marine Mechanic, you should have extensive knowledge of motorboat engines, be able to work on land and at sea, and be able to diagnose problems with engine systems.

 

What You'll Do:

  • Lead and perform the inspection of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic defects and problems on marine engine, electrical, and plumbing systems, and recommend solutions.

  • Utilize troubleshooting guides and manufacturer’s repair manuals properly to test equipment.

  • Evaluate and communicate repair and service needs of equipment in the Service Department.

  • Create bids for equipment repair and service.

  • Present estimates for repairs and service to customers.

  • Uphold proper use of maintenance/shop equipment and tools.

  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.

  • Maintain company vehicles and equipment.

  • Coordinate parts requests with the Parts Department and vendors.

  • Complete service records and repair documents.

  • Meet or exceed Service Department quality and productivity goals.

  • Take instruction from supervisors and work effectively with other staff.

  • Communicate with customers in person, by phone, and via email.

  • Coordinate shop workload with other technicians.

  • Assist other technicians and staff when needed.

What You Bring:

  • 18 years of age or older; high school graduate or equivalent.

  • 5 years of directly related work experience.

  • Skills to use a wide variety of hand tools.

  • Working knowledge of marine machinery, diverse components, and their attachments.

  • Detailed knowledge of the operating characteristics of the involved machinery, equipment, systems, and their functional relationships.

  • Knowledge of applicable installation and repair procedures, methods, and trade practices.

Full-time, Monday through Friday 7:30 am - 4:00 pm

​

Compensation will be commensurate with experience.

​
